tiremOnce a rather dejected hotel right beside the wooded roundabout in the centre of Tire, the Tirem has been given a successful makeover that has injected colour into the bedrooms and provided them with all mod-cons except any TV channels in English.

My fifth floor bedroom was extremely comfortable with a double bed and a balcony overlooking the greenery but with the old town visible on the hill to the right and the new town to the left. The furnishings were well made and well thought out with a proper desk with a reading lamp and power points right beside the bed. Rather surprisingly, the fridge was empty but the air con and wifi both worked well.

The bathroom was rather dated in comparison with the bedroom.

Reception is along one side of a spacious ground-floor lounge which, while rather old-fashioned, looked inviting with pictures and articles about Tire dotted about.

I was already pretty taken with this hotel but then I came down to breakfast and found that, at least in summer, you can step outside onto a wide terrace to eat it. What was on earth wasn't especially exciting but being able to look out at the trees was a great treat.

Thumbs up: Inviting bedroom decor

Thumbs down: Steps up to reception, lower rooms might suffer from traffic noise
