task1The new (2013) Taşköprü Hotel in Adana has a great location immediately facing the Stone Bridge form which it takes its name, albeit across a busy road junction. It's a sign of the way things are starting to go in Adana that it is on the edge of Tepebağ, the historic part of town that is slowly starting to twitch into touristic life since the opening of the Hotel Bosnalı just up the road.

The smart, spacious lobby of the hotel comes as something of a surprise after the inconspicuous entrance but sets the tone for a hotel that offers the same smart, modern bedroom amenities as the business-class hotels around the Beşocak Meydanı but in a more appealing location where the front rooms look out over the Seyhan river, a view as attractive as that on offer for considerably higher prices at the nearby Hilton and Sheraton.

My room had lots of space in it, a big bed, an open-fronted minibar (only minimally stocked and with no alcohol), a wall-mounted TV with AlJazeera and plenty of electric sockets. There was even a table set up in front of the window to soak up the view while working.

task2Doubdle-glazing certainly reduced the noise from the street outside although it could never entirely exclude Adana's frantically-tooting traffic. Rooms at the rear are presumably quieter but without the winner of a view.

The bathroom was also spacious and with a big walk-in shower.

The first-floor breakfast room offered a great choice of hot and cold items to start the day.

Newness is alwys a plus in a hotel but this one was also particularly welcoming, at least to this visitor. One slight snag is that the area is still quiet and poorly lit at night-time - walking up the road in search of dinner I felt very conspicuous as a lone woman even at 9pm. There are places to eat just round the corner though so you don't have to walk far if you don't want to.

Thumbs up: Excellent location and views from front rooms; smart, modern fixtures and fittings

Thumbs down: Street noise can't be entirely excluded from front rooms
