At first glance the medium-rise Orka Boutique Hotel, behind the post office on Fethiye's main street, might not seem the most promising of places to stay. If, however, you want to be able to visit the sites of the town itself without too much travelling about it's actually almost perfectly placed: close to the harbour and the cruise boats, the museum, the bazaar, the rock-cut tombs and the buses to Ölüdeniz and Kayaköy. There's even a taxi rank in front of it if you need to speed to and from the otogar.

My room on the third floor turned out to be surprisingly spacious with room not only for a double and a single bed but also for a small sitting area too. There was even a pocket-handkerchief-sized balcony with a side view over the town's new square and a part of the harbour.

In 2014 the hotel reopened after a complete makeover so that I can't comment on the new decor. It used to be the Hotel Kemal.

You eat breakfast in the downstairs space that doubles as the Yelken (Sail) Restaurant right beside the harbour so that you can watch the early morning activity while you tuck into a hearty spread including a few hot items (eggs are also available if you ask). I found this made for an excellent start to the day.

Thumbs up: Very handy location for sightseeing. Good breakfast. Comfortable rooms

Thumbs down: No lift so no good for anyone with mobility issues (this may have changed since the makeover).
