One might expect remote Tunceli to be low on decent hotels but in fact it has several including the smart new Demir, just off the high street.
Bedrooms are large and stylishly, not to mention colourfully, decorated. Mine had red-painted radiators, cupboards and chairs. Some rooms have twin beds but mine had a king-sized bed with fine cotton sheets and pilowcases. I've rarely slept in a bigger or more comfortable bed.
The wall-mounted plasma TV offered BBC World and there was good air-con and wifi connection. A small firidge came empty.
The bathroom was especially attractive with a sizeable sink and a wonderful corner shower.
Breakfast is served in the fifth floor restaurant which has lovely mountain views. It's a good spread, plenty enough to set you up for a day's trekking. Dinner is also served here with discounts from menu prices for hotel residents. A musician entertains guests here at weekends.
Reception is down a few steps from the lift which could make life tricky for the mobility challenged although entry from the back of the hotel through the ground-floor cafe and stright through to the lift might be possible.
Thumbs up: Spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, very comfortable big beds
Thumbs down: Live music in the restaurant could be a pain if you're staying on upper floors and want an early night.
