YALIKAVAK

"The Poplar by the Sea"                         Population:

yalikavak1Market day: Thursday

On the northwest side of the Bodrum Peninsula, pretty Yalıkavak centres on a harbourful of gülets but also boasts several inviting getaway-from-it-all boutique hotels up on the hillside. It served as the setting for Jack Scott's 2012 travel memoir Perking the Pansies which dished the dirt on goings-on in the expat community.

This is not a place where there's a great deal to do beyond stretching out on a sunbed during the day, then adjourning to a bar or restaurant in the evening. The only "sight" is a renovated windmill on the waterfront where a few picturesque fishing boats still bob up and down beside the larger boats waiting to take visitors on a cruise around the bay. yakikavak2

If you need something more specific to do during the day you could always walk the 3km up to the abandoned hillside village of Sandıma or take the bus south to Gümüşlük to explore the ruins of Myndos.

Idyll Villas

Two stylish, spacious villas with pools and all mod cons on the hillside above Yalıkavak, within walking distance of town. Views marred by some unsightly development.
